This weekend we went on an evening Volksmarch in Cleebronn, Germany. Cleebronn is about 45 minutes away from where we live so we loaded up the car, with our friends Walt & Katie joining us, and headed out. The weather was beautiful, with a clear blue sky and temps in the mid-70's. Our walk went through a vineyard where they were growing grapes for Riesling wine, including going on a street named Rieslingstrasse. We walked all around this hill, stopping at the first checkpoint. After some beer and water, we continued on our walk, going now through the forest. The forest was lovely, so wonderfully green, with streams and ponds along our route. We then came to a second check point and after walking through the forest longer we headed back into town. It was a good walk, slow but steady, though we did have to speed it up at the end to make sure we got back while the walk was still going on. The "medal" for this walk was a wallet. After checking back in and getting our stamps and medals, we joined the crowd outside and had dinner and beer - rotisserie chicken, bratwurst, and fries. With the beautiful weather and scenery, it made for a great day.
The highlight of our trip was listening to a cuckoo bird while in the forest. Katie had heard that if you hear a cuckoo, the number of times it cuckoo's is how long you have left to live. Since the cuckoo we heard kept going even after we'd walked out of hearing range, this is definitely a tale I like :-)
