We decided today to go to a flea market in downtown Stuttgart. We also went to a fresh open air market you can see this market in the background behind Brad and the girls. We didn't buy any fruit, veggies, plants or flowers - of which there were tons to choose from - since we had taken the train and weren't heading directly back- but did buy some honey and jam. Since being here in Germany we've discovered that there is a lot to be said about how fresh the food is, they believe the food should be purchased every day vice a week or two at a time. It makes it all taste so very good! Plus we've become fans of going to the local bread store to buy our bread, it's so much fresher and better than wonder bread!
We also went to two different flea markets today - one downtown which had a lot of more artsy/antique items and one at the university which was like a huge garage sale. Our feet were tired after all the walking around, though all of us did find something that we purchased. We had been thinking of going to a local castle also but we were all so footsore that we decided to waive off until a future date! The weather has been great so far, so we're taking advantage of it while we can. The forecast says tomorrow it'll be raining so we may end up just hanging out at home.
While we were downtown we also checked out a large bookstore that has English books in it. They did, quite a few to choose from also, but after looking at the price tags on them (the average price was just under 11 Euro - which is about 18 U.S. dollars for a paperback!!!!! ) we decided to just stick to Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com instead! One one of the stores here, the big exchange, has any books - but they have only the equivalent of one aisle of books available. It's really pretty pitiful and goes to show that people really don't read that much nowadays! I'll just have to continue to do my best at making up for lots of other people by reading a lot myself!
